5 killed in crossfire with RAB
Five alleged notorious terrorists were killed in ‘crossfire’ during the shootout between the terrorists and the members of Rapid Action Battalion and Police in Jhenidah, Noakhali and Natore in the small hours of Tuesday.
On the other hand, RAB arrested three persons and recovered a live grenade containing 95 grams of high explosive from Aminbazar at Savar. In Chittagong, RAB arrested two other terrorists and recovered some firearms from their possessions.
According to the sources, two persons including activists of outlawed Purba Banglar Communist Party (PBCP) ML-Janajuddha were killed in a bloody encounter with the Police in Jhenidah in the small hours of Tuesday.
In Noakhali, police gunned down two alleged snatchers in a shootout between the miscreants and police personnel on Tuesday early morning. Police also recovered a good number of arms and ammunition from their possessions.
In another incident, A listed terrorist and also regional leader of the PBCB was killed on the spot during a gunfight between the extremists and members of RAB at Natore in the morning.
UNB from Jhenidah adds : Two terrorists were killed in separate incidents of shootout between their followers and law-enforcers in the district early today (Tuesday).
The dead were identified as Shanti,45, an activist of outlawed Purba Banglar Communist Party (ML-Janajuddha) and Gautam Kumar,45, a terrorist and robber.
Police arrested Shanti from Kotchandpur upazila headquarters on Monday night and took him near Elangi math area in search of firearms at midnight.
When they reached the spot, Shanti’s cohorts opened fire on the law-enforcers. As police returned fire, a shootout with the terrorists ensued and he was killed on the spot amid the exchange of fire, police said.
ASI Saheb Ali and constables Mahmudul Islam and Sirajul Islam were also injured in the armed encounter.
A pipe gun and two bullets were netted from the scene, they said.
Shanti was wanted in four cases including three murders,
In another incident, police nabbed Gautam from Barobazar in Kaliganj upazila on Monday noon.
Acting on his statement, police took him to Pirojpur area in the same upazila at 4.15 am today (Tuesday) to nab his accomplices.
As the force along with Gautame reached the spot, his sidekicks put up barricade felling trees on Dhaka-Khulna highway and opened fire on police, triggering a gunfight.
Gautam was struck by bullets in the crossfire when he tried to escape and died on the spot, police sources said.
Police recovered a pipe gun, one bullet, three knives and two choppers from the scene.
BSS from Rajshahi adds : A leader of the outlawed Purba Bangler Communist Party and a top listed terror was killed in ‘crossfire’ with RAB-5 at Paschim Kalaikuri area under Singra Upazila of Natore district early this morning.
RAB sources said the dead was identified as Muslem alias Amor, 28, son of Nazir Mollah of Ramrama village under Baghmara Upazila of the district.
He was the so-called Vice-president of Rajshahi divisional committee of the outlawed party. RAB arrested him from Jigrihat under Bagatipara Upazila of Natore on Monday evening.
The gunfight erupted while the members of the elite force reached Paschim Kalaikuri area with Amor to arrest his accomplices and recover arms. The associates of Amor opened fire on RAB to snatch away their leader from the custody. RAB also returned fire. At one stage of the shootout Amor received bullet while trying to escape the scene.
UNB from Noakhali adds : Two suspected gangsters involved in Sunday’s snatching of bank money were gunned down during an encounter between their cohorts and police at Chhotohasanpur village in Begumganj Upazila early today (Tuesday).
Police said an armed gang shot dead baby-taxi driver Noor Nabi and wounded two employees of Rupali Bank-Abul Kalam and Nooruddin-while snatching away Tk 8 lakh of the bank on Sunday.
Launching a manhunt, the law-enforcers arrested Yusuf and Shahjahan alias Badshah along with Tk 1 lakh from a house at Chowmohoni later in the day and Jahangir alias Yakub from Chawkbazar of Chittagong on Monday.
Police said they seized 3 LGs, one gun and a number of bullets from the getaway bus of the gang.
Following their statements, police took Shahjahan and Jahangir to Chhotohasanpur village to arrest another suspected member of the gang, Liton, Monday night.
When police encircled the house of Liton at about 2am, he and their accomplices opened fire, triggering a gunfight, police said.
Shahjahan and Jahangir were hit by bullet during the exchange of fire. They were taken to the General Hospital where Shahjahan died late in the night. Jahangir died on way to Dhaka Medical Hospital today.
Five law enforces were also injured when the terrorists hurled bombs at them. They are SI Noor Hossain, Constables Abdul Khalek and Mosleuddin, and ansars Nozir and Ismail. They were admitted to the hospital.
Police recovered a foreign-made gun and ammunition from the spot after the late-night clash.
BSS from Barisal adds : Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) today arrested two persons from the city in connection with yesterday’s fierce clash between two groups in Alekanda area.
The arrested are Kalu Sikder and Shahabuddin. They were handed over to police.
Police said the two groups were locked in the clash over establishing supremacy in the area.
During the two-hour clash, two persons---Yusuf, 38, and Junayed, 18,---were injured seriously and admitted to Sher-e- Bangla Medical College Hospital.
One group also damaged several houses and looted valuables of the rival group during the clash, police said.
Being informed, RAB and police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control.
