7 rebels arrested
Patna, May 2 (PTI) : Seven CPI(Maoist) activists were arrested and 24 others detained for questioning following raids in Vaishali district.
The arrests followed a raid on Jandaha town, around 60 km from here, in which Maoists attacked a police station and made an abortive bid to loot a bank.
Raids were conducted by a joint team of special task force, Bihar Military Police and Special Auxiliary Police, deputy inspector-general of police (Tirhut range) Gupteshwar Pandey said today.
Two dozen people, suspected to be sympathisers of the Naxalite outfit, were detained for questioning, he said.
Vaishali superintendent of police Preeta Verma said the gas-cutter used to break open the locks at the main gate of a Canara Bank branch on Friday night in Jandaha was later recovered from another place.
Over 200 rebels attacked Jandaha past midnight on Friday and opened fire at the police station prompting retaliation by the policemen.
