Raipur, April. 19 (PTI) : The outlawed CPI (Maoist) would intensify its attack on security forces and villagers to show its opposition to the appointment of former Punjab Director General of Police K P S Gill as Security Advisor to the Chhattisgarh Government, police sources said today.
"There is specific information that the naxalites would increase their violent activities in the state in the wake of appointment of Gill to send a message to its rank and file that the rebels are not worried about the presence of Gill in the state," the sources told PTI here.
A Superintendent of Police of a naxal district said that they had specific information that naxalites planned to increase their attacks on opponents, including the police and villagers, to show that they were not "worried".
Police was also seeing the attack on Murkinar police station by the Maoists from that angle as on Sunday. The Maoists carried out the attack, killing eleven security personnel, including one officer, and looted 38 sophisticated weapons.
The former Punjab DGP arrived here yesterday and about 250 armed Maoists cordoned off the Usur village, the sources said.
However, police had prior information about such an act by the naxalites to "greet Gill" with large scale violence and that saved bloodshed in Usur village of Bijapur police district, they added.
After additional forces, including the CRPF were asked to move to Usur to provide security, naxalites started withdrawing from the village, they said.
