Sources from inside the Israeli prison system told PNN Saturday that Palestinian political prisoners are preparing for a hunger strike in protest not only of solitary confinement, but also of a extreme deterioration in their already difficult living situation.
The Israeli prison administration continues to violate Palestinian human rights, as reported by sources in the prisons. Those violations include being searched without clothes, being deprived of fresh air, having basic necessities confiscated from cells, and insults against visiting family members. For the past month prisoner rights groups have reported on Israeli prison administrators forcing visiting women to remove their head scarves in full view of prison guards. For years reports of human rights violations have poured in.
Included in the information that was clandestinely communicated from inside the prison system is that several Palestinians have been held in solitary confinement not only for weeks on end, but some have been held as such for years.
A general appeal was issued Saturday, in addition to announcing the impending hunger-strike, to all Palestinians to come to the aid of political prisoners by making-public the treatment prisoners are suffering.
Collectively, Palestinian political prisoners in Israeli jails are preparing this nonviolent action in order to bring more attention to the case.
